Round 5

Round 5 just announced; 'This house believes that China and India should bear the same obligations as the West in fighting climate change.'

Womens Night

The women's debate is being held at the School of Music* this evening at 8pm. There will be a pre-drinks reception at the venue. The motion for debate tonight is 'That this house would ban all forms of religious gender discrimination.' Post debate there will be a social at the Old Oak,Oliver Plunkett St.

In conjunction with Womens Night we are fundraising for Action Breast Cancer, ribbons,pins and keyrings are on sale at the information desk in the Boole Basement and throughout campus.

*The School of Music is across the river from Jury's Inn and the Clarion Hotel, there will be volunteers walking people across. There will be buses leaving from Jury's Hotel.

Round 3 has just been announced the motion is 'This house would allow soldiers to sue their Government for negligence.'

Public Speaking Competition

This year sees a rise in the numbers for the sign up for the Public Speaking Competition, so far there is approx 75 people signed up. Speeches are for 3-4 minutes. Chief Adjudicator is Jason Rogers, last years winner of the competition.

Round 1 is on today at 6pm West Wing 7.
Round 2 is on tomorrow at 6pm West Wing 7
The Final is on 1st January .

Round 2

Round 2 has just been announced and the motion is 'This house would fire the senior managements of all corporations which receive government bailouts.'

RíRá Comedy Night

Tonight should be a night of laughter with the Championships long running comedy night. Comedian Michael Mee will be in attendance along with MC Jason Coughlan. Sign up sheet is available at the Boole Basement Information Desk. Sign up will close before Round 3 announce.

Buses will be leaving Jury's Hotel from 8.30pm, venue is walking distance from the Clarion and Jury's Inn.

'Sugradh'


Tonight will see the second social of the competition. Tonight's social is adequately called 'Sugradh' which is the Irish for 'play'. The venue for the social is the Mardyke Complex which is Cork's leading leisure venue. Tonight will have free bowling, snooker, pool and karaoke, so make sure to bring your party feet for tonight's social!

Briefings and The Masters Competition

Common and Tournament Briefings have begun this morning in the Boole Theatres on UCC Campus. After lunch the adjudication test and the Masters Preliminary Rounds will begin. For those intending to participate in the Masters Competition please ensure to register for the competition during lunch.

Pre- Council will be held this evening at 19.45 in Jurys Hotel .

Arrivals


Yesterday saw the majority of delegations descending on Cork City. The first arrivals were Nanyang Technological University and the final delegation to arrive late last night were Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Still to arrive today are 25 teams and 40 judges, included in this are the delegations from Assumption, Brown University, Colgate, University De La Salle University, Deree College and the University of new South Wales.

Also, last night saw the first of the eight socials over the competition. The Welcome Parties were held in the three hotels, Jury's Hotel, Jury's Inn and The Clarion.
